Guess who's back!

Tue Dec 9, 2008, 11:38 PM
It's been a while since I last logged onto this website. Having just cleared through around 400 past posts I've decided that most of the people I knew that used this website at one point have moved on, although for boredoms sake I may stick around on here for a while longer, just to see if I still like using this website.

I guess I'd better answer where I've been all this time. Well, my last post was in 2005 and that is when I had finished my National Diploma. After a huge cock-up on the college's behalf (a lecturer forgot to mark my coursework and failed me by default) meant that I had received my grades after the universities had started admitting students, resulting in me having to stay at college to take my HND.

So, two years of my HND and I was starting to become pretty good, reaching high marks in many of my classes. In my second (and final year) I fell off a wall after a gig, shattering both heels. Three weeks and two surgeries later I was out of hospital and in a wheelchair for three months. As the college was unable to let me take my exams and finish my coursework during the summer they decided to fail me by default and allow me to retake as my first attempt the following year, at full price. This is something I obviously disagreed with so I decided to ditch college altogether and go to university to take Computer Science. After weighing up my options between a couple of universities, good, bad and local I decided to stay local and go to the University of the West of England, Bristol. It's a dump, but it's my dump now...

Some may view my previous four years in academia as a waste, but as of now I am flying through CS, averaging about 70-80% in all my subjects. In many ways college has taught me the fundamentals of Software Engineering, and being able to apply that to the more theoretical aspects of Computer Science have allowed me to excel at practical work, leaving me lots of time to build up my theoretical knowledge. Now I'm half-way through my course, so hooray for me! Within this time I have held several jobs, ranging from being a sales assistant at a leading sports store (no, not sports world, another one...), a Search Engine Optimisation Consultant for a leading real estate company (pays extremely well), and a Junior Developer (Java, some PHP and a splash of Haskell). For one of my software business ventures (more a concept of one) I achieved a merit prize and a shiny certificate (and a nice cash prize), and on top of that based on my content writing I have been nominated for an award from a leading online website. I won't mention which one, but it's a

As far as the future is concerned, I have a summer internship lined up at Sega (the home of a certain famous blue hedgehog), I have contributed to several Open Source projects and will continue to do so as my programming and tech-writing skills improve, and I may be offered the opportunity to study for a year at Virginia Commonwealth University (an opportunity I will most definitely turn down). On top of that my year of physiotherapy has been overly successful, with my feet feeling stiff but capable of walking, running, and my usual antics.

The past few years have been a real eye-opener for me. In many aspects I have grown-up, finding myself happy and with a genuine purpose. My accident turned out to be a real eye-opener for me, allowing me to view life in a completely different manner. Some say that those that have suffered hardships throughout their life gain the strength to achieve happiness. As a result, I can safely say that today, even though I have three deadlines at university and mountains of Christmas shopping to finish, I am happy.

MySpace

Mon May 23, 2005, 12:34 PM
I've had some people request that I add more pictures onto my deviantART thang. Whilst it'd fill my profile up, I'm not gonna stick pictures of myself there because I want to keep it clean, and not just some replica of what you'd see from me on a place like MySpace. Because of this, I thought I'd stick a lnk to my MySpace profile here, so all you sick internet freaks can print off pictures of me and give me golden showers whenever you want.

Mike's MySpace Profile!

In other news: Mike has purchased tickets to see Finch! Add this up to the tickets I have to Reading Festival, and this equals a pretty damn good summer.

ALSO, as far as actual graphics stuff goes, I'm working on something small with =Fenixgfx at the moment, but due to problems with my computer being an uberslut, it's taking a while to get some of teh brushing done. I'm gonna try putting together some Web Designs sometime as well, so for once, you might get to see something in this piece o' shit profile.

Bleed The Dream - Legends Die

Sun May 8, 2005, 2:05 PM
I haven't loved a song like this is a while. I have only had my new iPod for about 5 weeks, and I've already clocked up about 1,000 listens on this song. About the same on my computer as well. For anyone who is deprived of this amazing song (which, if you know me, you aren't) because I've plugged it to people more times than a gay man plugs his asshole), you can listen to it, and watch the video here.

There you go
Throwing stone
This is how you want to end it
Take your life
Precious life
You're not even worth defending

I know your out there laughing
It's time to disappear
And i know your hearts are empty
And the end is calling near

It's just what you wanted
Just what you wanted
To be dead and dishonest
So just let it take you
Just let it take you
Cause it's sad what it's come to

Take it in
Breathe it in
Even though your lungs cant stand it
Push it out
Breathe it out
You know they're waiting open handed

And i could never tell you
The things you want to hear
What your about to go through
Will force you through your fear
It's just what you wanted
To be dead and dishonest
So just let it take you
Cause it's sad what its come to

It's just what you wanted
To be dead and dishonest
So just let it take you
Cause it's sad what its come to

Good vs Evil

Tue Mar 29, 2005, 11:51 PM
Mike is at war.

This morning, at exactly 7:46am. A great evil appeared outside my house, and decided to drill the fucking walls and roof out. The noise their electric drilly thing makes is unbelievably loud, thus making it impossible to sleep. I looked out of my window, seen the bastards outside, and decided: This was WAR!!!!111oneone.

I have a suprisingly large inventory when it comes to things that disturb my sleep. I learned a lot from my old schoolboy years about how to pretend to be at school and finding places that are quiet and secure to sleep the day away. I used some of these tools/techniques to my advantage. Just imagine me as a guerilla warrior, but with sleep.

Round One:
The enemy tried hitting me with all they had. The drill was inside the house, and vibrating the very walls inside my house. It seemed like there was no escape. I was early in my retreat to get more sleep. After all, that is what this entire war was about. I looked for secure places to sleep.

My bed with every cover/pillow over me, covering the noise: Unsuccessful
The Bathroom: Unsuccessful
The Greenhouse: Unsuccessful
The Shed: Unsuccessful
Brothers Room: Unsuccessful

There seemed to be no possible way of running away from this enemy from the confinements of my own living quarters. Leaving the house and sleeping elsewhere was not an option, for I was in my boxers (as always, I rarely put clothes on). All I could do was retreat and wait for Round Two

Round Two
Right from the word go, they attacked again with another relentless barrage of noise and vibrations. I was seriously wondering why no one else was complaining about this, till I remembered all my neighbours are either chavs who are probably too stoned to realise what's going on, or old people who are too deaf to hear all this crap going on. My anger was going through the rood, so I decided to fight these bastards head on. It was freezing outside, so I had to launch an attack on their van outside. There was no upstairs window for me to launch a safe attack, so I had to do it to their van outside, and the people around the back of it operating the controls for the huge watery thingy they use to suck away all the parts broken off. I gave them all the ammunition I had (which wasn't much).

Apple I'd just eaten: Unsuccessful
Barrage of swear words aimed at their spouse/significant other: Unsuccessful
Empty bottle of water: Unsuccessful
More swearing: Unsuccessful

The bastards had their defense just as well planned as their attack. They were all hid behind the massive truck outside, meaning there was no way I could see, or reach what I was aiming my insults/ubjects at. I was just about to give up and hang myself from tiredness when I remembered that with my ability to drive neighbours crazy myself, I would have to fight fire with fire.

Round Three
I loaded up my computer, and took all the songs I could find that were fairly loud, stuck them all in my playlist, turned my speakers up veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery loud, and fought back with 6 watts of supercharged musical powers!!111

Suffice to say, it's not helping me sleep, but it's better than listening to them.

I soon realised one flaw in my plan. If I was going to stay here for any lengthy period of time, within at least 10 minutes without food, my stomach tries to digest itself. This means I'd need food, so I waited for the drill to go off, then I ran downstairs, avoided my parents complaining about my music, and ran in with loads of crisps into my room. I had set up camp, and I was in the for the long haul.

I thought I was safe, till I realised their new direct/secret weapon. They tried to directly attack me with the drill, so I looked outside, and what did I see!

Perverts!

This old, grey man with a moustashe was outside, looking in at me on the computer all this time in my boxers. If only I were still underage, then I'd have him down for paedophilia and voyeurism. Now that I'm 18, his pervertedness would only soften the blow for my own. The bastard wouldn't stop staring, so I did what anyone would do at that time. Itch their ass and get back on with doing whatever the hell I'm doing at the moment.

I now have a companion in my war. Cassie was fed up of all the noise, so she's joined me in my crusade for sleep. She's pitched out on my bed and is ready to kill any drilling old perverts who try to make their way into my room.

We were both at a crushing stalemate, till they decided that they'd come back in a few hours to finish the work and to "get more supplies" (wimp talk for "I can't handle Mike's relentless destruction of social security and peace"). They packed up quickly and left, so I done my happy dance, proclaimed that I was the victor of the war, then I collapsed in bed.
